Costs

The most common thing people want to know is how much their case will cost. Unfortunately, each case is different, so Picray Law cannot tell you how much your case will cost without consulting with you. Therefore, initial consultations of up to 30 minutes are free. To schedule an initial consultation, call 515.974.9900 or email joanne.picray@jpicraylaw.com. When you come for your consultation, bring as much information as you can. This will help to ensure an accurate estimate.

Basic Information on Costs and Fees:

Fees: Picray Law charges hourly for staff time, billed in increments of 1/10 of an hour (6 minutes), for most cases. Some cases may be billed at a flat rate. When you talk with the attorney, you can discuss your preferences and options for paying fees.

Costs: Costs include such things as filing fees, paid to the court or government agency, copies, postage, service of other parties, parking, required travel, and research fees paid by the attorney for your specific case. Costs generally MUST be paid in advance.

Retainer: A retainer is money paid in advance to the attorney for work that has been agreed upon. This money is kept in a trust account and is paid out to the attorney and for costs as work is done. If money is left in the trust account when your case is completed, it is returned to you. If the retainer is insufficient to cover the costs, more money will be requested as soon as it becomes obvious that it is needed.

Payment Plans: If you are unable to pay the full retainer prior to the beginning of your case, talk with the attorney about payment arrangements. Attorney Joanne Picray is happy to work with clients when necessary.
